James Cohan has been active in the contemporary art world for nearly four decades as a curator, advisor, artist agent, and art dealer. He has represented a prestigious roster of living artists, artist estates and has sold important works to art museums and major private collections in Europe, the US and Asia.

In 1999, together with his wife Jane, they opened James Cohan Gallery on West 57th Street. Since its founding, James Cohan has presented a rigorous and varied program, including solo exhibitions of gallery artists and thematic group exhibitions every year. The gallery moved to West 26th Street in Chelsea in 2002 and subsequently opened a second location at 291 Grand Street in 2015. James Cohan Gallery has since relocated to Tribeca and opened two locations at 48 and 52 Walker Street. 

Jim is the Chairman of the Art21 Board of Trustees and on the Brooklyn Museum board of Advisors. He was recently appointed President of The Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA) Foundation.
